the fault in our stars -- john green outfit: white t-shirt, simple jeans words: not many. ❥ ELI'S THUMBS DRUMMED absentmindedly on the edge of the table. His eyes scanning over the crowd of people. Well, for a McDonalds. It's not like it was completely packed, with people pushed against one another. But there were quite a few people. Blocking paths, filling seats. Eli himself had grabbed one of the last ones left when he'd gotten here about twenty minutes ago. Now, he was nestled near the back, in a small two-person booth. It was definitely placed for small meetings or dates, as it had a short wall separating it from the booth next to it. An apparent attempt at privacy.
Now, after a fifteen minute wait, Eli finally had his Big Mac and fries in front of him. Usually, he would avoid fast food as much as possible, since didn't want to mess up anything with his sports, but today just seemed like a splurge day. And the post he'd passed earlier looked A-mazing. Plus, one day didn't really matter all that much. Stopping his drumming, Eli reached for his food, opened the box, and took a decent sized bite of his food. Sensing the sauce on the corner of his mouth, he grabbed a napkin and wiped it off.
As he chewed, his eyes scanned the room, and stopped on a pretty girl standing a bit away from him, looking a bit lost. He chuckled to himself. Maybe she was meeting someone and couldn't find them. That was always horrible. As his eyes moved on -he didn't want to look like a creep- he noticed all the full tabled. A small "oh" escaped his lips as he looked back at the girl. Now he got it. And of course, he was gonna be the good guy. You can't just leave someone with no where to sit. That's rude. Plus, he secretly craved the company as well.
Without hesitation, his hand went up in a bit of a wave, and he tried to make eye contact with the girl that was still standing there, awkwardly. "You can sit here if you want" he said, making sure it was loud enough so she could hear, but not insanely loud to where he was yelling at her. His hand went down, but his mouth turned up into a half-smile. If anything, she says no, and they go on. So what's the harm in asking?

Closer up, she was even prettier. Which was surprising, considering most girls weren't. Not that they were ugly or anything. Just, usually caked in make up and being a bit of a distance away made it harder to see texture. However, her face just looked like.. her face. He couldn't tell if she just had flawless skin, or if she was just using a bit. Or a lot and she happened to know the best non-cake-like make up brand in the world. He would give her numbers to a few of the girls in his classes if that was the case. Her eyebrows were a bit on the thick side but.. went oddly well with her face. Kudos to her for pulling if off.
More than anything, it was her hair that had made him stop and look long enough to notice she didn't have anywhere to sit. Even being a guy, Eli had to admit she had nice hair. Well, to him, that just meant it was long. He liked long hair, and wasn't much of a detail-oriented person when it came to hair... and clothes... and pretty much anything that includes colors labeled anything other than 'blue, red, brown..' etc.
Her words broke him out of his thoughts, and his eyes snapped from her bag, which he'd zoned out on for a second, to her face. The corner of his mouth twitched up at her words, and he gave a small shrug. "It's no big deal," he said, "and plus, you didn't look like an idiot, you just looked.... lost."
His eyebrows raised as she introduced herself, and he couldn't help but smirk at her expression. It was as if she had committed a crime by not introducing herself. And the fact that she said it twice also added to the humor of it. "Well, Kara, I'm Eli, I'm Eli" he said, giving it a bit of a rhythm before winking at Kara. Reaching to his pile of fries -he always dumped them out onto the tray- he grabbed one and at it in just a few bites. His eyes lingered on her mouth as she ate her own fry, topped with ice cream, a single eyebrow raised in curiosity. "You're a bit odd, aren't you?" he asked, smiling a bit.

But in a flash, it was gone and she was talking and smiling again. Relieved, he returned her smile. "I choose all of them." As if it were final, he put on a serious face and nodded once, then chuckled a bit, his smile returning with it. He watched again as she ate her.. odd, different, and strange food choice, still confused as to how that would even taste the slightest bit good. It wouldn't be throw up worthy. C'mon, fries and ice cream, apart, were amazing. But together? That's a bit... odd. But, hey, if she liked it, then why not?
Not wanting to stare, he let his eyes wander over the table. When they landed on his Big Mac, he happily picked it up and took another bite, keeping it in his hands. This way he wouldn't forget he had it again. Which wouldn't be hard, considering that he was talking to a pretty girl.
Not that the person had to be pretty for him to forget. Any conversation could make Eli forget about food. He always got so caught up in talking. It just seemed to be something he was good at, and had always been that way. Between him and his twin brother, Eli was the social butterfly by a long shot. Not that his brother was an introvert, just that Eli would talk to anyone given the chance.
Since he'd just taken another bite, he considered her words as he ate. While her taste in food was way weird, she did have a point. Odd wasn't bad. Hell, he'd been called odd most of his life. But that was because he was a chatterbox, and was completely welcoming. I guess that didn't happen much.
Then again, paired with his habit of clamming up and fleeing when mad, he could see why he was odd. Most people thought he'd be the sort to be mad, but be rational about it. Guess that gene had been left behind. "Very true, and you're a very good odd. I like it," he said, smiling and taking another, small bite.
"So, Kara, are you from around here?"

the fault in our stars -- john green outfit: white t-shirt, simple jeans words: not many. ❥ USING HER SILENCE as free time, Eli took a few bigger bites of his burger, and quickly finished it off. Grabbing a napkin, he quickly wiped his mouth, making sure there wasn't anything left behind. That would be an awkward situation for both of them. Eli never knew why, but people seemed to over react to situations like that. Just tell the person, and move on with your lives. Not that hard, right? Not for most.
Eli bobbed his head slightly, thinking about her answer. "Seems far to come just for a community college." Which it was, since pretty much every town had their own. Or major ones. Actually, he wasn't all that sure, considering Modesto had been home for him for as long as he could remember. They'd moved here when he was two. While they'd traveled a bit, and had summer vacations, it wasn't the same as actually living somewhere. Getting the actual feel of a city took time. Eli chuckled softly at her question, popping another fry in his mouth and chewing it before answering.
"Yeah pretty much. We lived on one of the smaller towns around Modesto until I was two and then we moved here into my grandparents house when they passed. Well, grandma. Grandpa went a few years earlier. My dad inherited their old family home. Been around forever but has had tons of remodeling. To keep it in shape, you know? So yeah, my parents, my brother and I came when we were two. I can't remember it, of course, but yea, it's always been home." Realizing he was talking quite a bit, he cut himself off, and brought his eyes up to hers, smiling a bit shyly. "Do you have any siblings? I kinda wish I'd one or two more." And he had, honestly. He wasn't sure why his parents hadn't had more than two kids. At least they weren't alone but, more company is always nice. More people to do shit with.

❥ ELI COULDN'T HELP but laugh airily to himself as he noticed Kara's far-off look. He raised his eyebrows but simply ate another of his remaining friends, waiting for her to break out of her spell. It didn't take long, of course, but it was still amusing to Eli. Things like that always caught his attention. And there was always the same questions that accompanied it. What was the person thinking about? Was it good thoughts? Bad thoughts? An embarrassing memory? You never knew what other were thinking about, unless they told you. That never failed to fascinate Eli.
It seemed Eli wasn't the only one with only a single sibling. Not that he'd expected he would be, but it was something they had in common. That was always good in a conversation. Or at least Eli thought so. It hadn't happened to him often, but there was nothing worse than a conversation dying off and just sitting there in silence. Awkwardly, most of the time.
"That's cool. I wish I'd had a sister. Though it sucks she left. But, hey, can't get anywhere staying still." Then again, he was staying still. Or, in the same town at least. But he was still going to college so that was something. Eventually he'd get out of this town and make his own life somewhere. Possibly come back one day. He just felt like he had to get out and see a bit more of the world before settling down. So many in Modesto just stayed and had families and repeated that each generation, never going anywhere. It sucked.
"Mmm. Yeah. I don't think she should've just left in that case. But, life happens." And it did. It always did and always would. Sometimes without a reason. If nothing else, that was what Eli had learned so far in his short life. "Uh, Elijah" That was pretty much always the first question he was asked when meeting someone new, so it didn't really surprise him that she asked. His eyes followed her finger for a moment as it traced over her lip. Realizing it could be a bit.. creepy to be staring, he brought his eyes back up to her eyes.
